I hope everyone enjoyed their first day of the new year! I love the fresh start and new beginning the new year brings—even though it really is just another day.
We rang in the new year last night watching reruns of Portlandia. What a great show!
I’ve visited Portland, OR a handful of times when my husband (boyfriend at the time) was going to college in Portland. And if you know anything about Portland, you know the show is spot-on. We had a lot of good laughs, and it made us all want to move there!
We also played Apples-to-Apples (love that game!) and enjoyed delicious food until 1:30 a.m. Waaay past my bedtime.

This morning, I was excited to go for a run in the mild temperatures again! Five miles at an average pace of 8:45 minutes/mile was exactly how I wanted to start my new year. That’s a decent pace for me in the winter, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
With the temps thawing things out during the day and then refreezing everything at night, the roads were pretty icy—although they have been worse, so I definitely made sure to wear my studded shoes today. They are a life-saver during the winter.
I only had to wear one pair of pants today, which made me a very happy girl. Fun Nike pants with “Just Do It” written all over them.
Today I laid low and got a few things checked off my to-do list: phone calls to my mom and sister, cooking things for the week, tidying up things around our apartment, etc.
I did take a break to watch a classic Christmas movie: Elf. I introduced my mother-in-law to this movie; she had never seen it before.
I also have to share a fabulous recipe I made the other day. I bookmarked Chelsey’s Roasted Potato Broccoli and White Bean Soup a while back and finally got around to making it. Definitely delicious, hearty, and healthy!

And yes, I am going to be ‘one of those people’ who posts highlights from the year, so here it goes.
Our trip to Maui for spring break. Best vacation I’ve ever taken!
Having my sister live with us for a month this spring.
Running Grandma’s Marathon and qualifying for Boston.
Breaking my PR in the 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon this year.
Running 100+ miles in a week this fall.
Running the Twin Cities Marathon with my sister.
I look forward to everything that 2013 brings my way! I’m feeling optimistic it is going to be a good year.
That soup looks great! Sounds like you had a nice holiday š
