Welcome to 2012!
Last night, Craig and I welcomed in the new year with a fairly low-key event—minus some fire on someone’s hair!
Andy, our host for the evening, invited us over for an Alaskan-themed dinner.
We had all sorts of Alaskan foods:
Halibut
I’m not a big fish person, but I do love halibut.
Caribou
Fun fact: caribou and reindeer are the same animal
caribou = wild
reindeer = domesticated
This was ground caribou meat mixed with breadcrumbs, seasonings, and herbs and then placed on a mushroom. Very delicious.
Our contribution: Ptarmigan that Craig shot this fall.
He made a cream and butter sauce with tarragon and saffron (which is crazy expensive). It was good and not gamey at all.
Moose Meat
Very good as well!
Home-grown beets
And local beers of many sort.
After dinner we watched the movie Cowboys and Aliens and then got ready to ring in the New Year with a toast.
Everyone getting ready!
After our toast, we proceeded outside for some fireworks.
When arriving home at 2 a.m., we saw this moose having a late-night snack on the bushes.
I definitely ate my fair share of food last night, so I made sure to get my butt to the gym for a workout this morning. Since I usually take Sundays off, I kept it on the easy side.
0.5 mile walk
1 mile run
0.5 mile walk
15 minutes elliptical
I wanted to run at least one mile because I want to see how long I can continue with the streak of running every day.
I know there are a lot of factors that can derail a run: sickness, weather (specifically ice), but I’m going to do my best to run at least one mile every day. We shall see how long it lasts!
~~~~~~~
Yesterday (Saturday) morning, I ran 7 miles outside in 1:06 (slow!).
It was COLD at 1* F. 😕
Hope your first day of the new year was a good one!
Omgsh–that is serious dedication. Your eyelashes are frosty!
