Termination Dust (a.k.a. snow)

It is Saturday, which means it is that time of the week for a long run! ๐Ÿ™‚

Pre-long run breakfast at 7 a.m.

Yogurt bowl with: blueberry yogurt, chia seeds, banana, flax, Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal, and unsweetened coconut.

Half of a whole wheat English muffin with almond butter and banana.For the next two hours I did meal planning for the week, found a bread recipe to make, did laundry, and got other random projects done. Nine o’clock rolled around, and it was time to start my run.

Run

Distance: 12 miles

Time: 1:42

Weather: 34 degrees, clear (cold!)

Clothes: two long sleeve, thin, dri-wicking tops (should have had one thicker one + one thin one); Nike running tights; Nike mittens/gloves (should have worn a thicker pair); Asics headband

Review: Besides being really cold (especially my hands and stomach) the run went really well. I felt good, strong, and my legs felt good the whole time. I got pretty hungry towards the end though. (I didn’t refuel while running.) Craig joined me on his bike for the whole time, and we chatted away, which made the time fly by!

~~~~~~~
When I got back, I had half of this package of Clif Shot Bloks, which is one serving.
During my run, I was dreaming about this hot, steamy bowl of Creamy White Chicken Chili soup. (The last of it. ๐Ÿ™ )
Next I took a hot shower to try to warm up some more!!
Check out what I found on sale at REI!!
My favorite brand of energy gels were on sale for $0.79 each.
One of my favorite flavors:
And a new flavor:
Larabars were also on sale for $0.99!!
Not only did they have the carrot cake flavor, but they also had chocolate chip cookie dough, which I have been reading rave reviews about on other blogs!! It was the highlight of my day! ๐Ÿ™‚~~~~~~
It is now time I introduce you to an Alaskan term: Termination Dust.
Termination dust, also know as snow on the tops of the mountains. But not yet down the side of the mountain or into the Anchorage “bowl.”
Where the term termination dust comes from:
1. It signifies the end (termination) of summer.
2. And years ago, the sign of snow on tops of the mountains meant the end of the season for construction workers.
This also means we will start seeing more moose in the city because the snow becomes too deep in the mountains and the moose have a harder time finding food.
Hi, I'm Michelle
I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
