Bjorn is TWO years old!
Bjorn turned two on Monday, and we had a small celebration for him with my in-laws and brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and niece at our house. I made the slow cooker pork tacos, plus a kale salad from the Run Fast Cook Fast Eat Slow cookbook, and they were both a big hit. I also made some cupcakes with race car pictures on toothpicks stuck in them as he loves is Hot Wheels cars.
Bjorn loves to play with his older brother, go for walks and stroller runs, go swimming, and is up for almost any adventure. He only has two words he says: “Mom” and “uh oh,” but in due time he will talk more. His favorite foods are: cheese, milk, blueberries, chips, and bananas. His nickname is “Bam Bam” because he often gets hurt and has a cut or scrape somewhere on his body. Poor guy.
Typically I recap one specific day but none of our recent days have been ‘typical,’ so I will be outlining our typical schedule most days instead.
5:30/6:00 a.m.
I get up for the day and get ready to run. If I have extra time, I will unload the dishwasher, check my email or reply to Instagram messages.
6:30/7:00 a.m.
I head out for my run. Depending upon how long my run is determines when I leave–I just have to be back by 8:30a.m. as that is when Craig starts work.
7:15 a.m.
Bjorn typically wakes up right around this time, which I am very happy about because if there is a day when I can sleep in, I know I can usually sleep until about 7:00 a.m. This is also when Craig gets up and gets Cullen up for school.
7:30 a.m.
The boys head downstairs for breakfast.
7:45 a.m.
Craig takes Cullen to school. Bjorn always goes along with them. (He will cry if he doesn’t get to go. It’s sweet.) This gives me extra time to run, so I am very thankful for this.
8:20 a.m.
Craig returns home, and this is about the time I am returning from my run.
8:30 a.m.
I am now in charge of Bjorn the rest of the day as Craig starts work. He works from home 100% of the time now. He was going into the office two days a week, then they changed it to one day a week, and now it is no days as the Covid cases keep rising here. I get breakfast while simultaneously doing work from my phone. Bjorn usually plays in the playroom with the big Hot Wheels track during this time.
9:00 a.m.
I head upstairs with Bjorn and make the beds and tidy up the bedrooms. There are a lot of toys in Cullen’s room, so Bjorn usually pulls out more Hot Wheels race tracks during this time. (Do you see why I decided on a race car theme for his birthday?!)
9:30 a.m.
I take a shower and get ready for the day. This whole time I am interacting with Bjorn while also doing work in the pockets of time there is.
10:30 a.m.
After I’m ready, we usually head out for a walk or run a couple of errands. We also just wrapped up two months of swimming lessons, which is where we went on Tuesdays and Thursdays during this time.
11:30 a.m.
Luchtime–I usually prep a pretty easy lunch for Bjorn: meat, cheese, crackers, a fruit, and milk. I also make lunch for myself.
12:00 p.m.
I am pretty strict with Bjorn’s nap (because it is also a solid chunk of time for me to get work done), so I put him down by noon, no later than 12:30 p.m. for naptime. Bjorn always goes down really easily, which I am very thankful for.
2:00/2:30p.m.
Bjorn usually naps for 2-2.5 hours. (I am so glad we have moved past those 90 minute naps.) If he goes down closer to 12:30p.m, then he often isn’t up until 3:00p.m. And every once in a while we have to wake him up at 3:30p.m., but we never let him sleep past 3:30p.m. to ensure a reasonable bedtime.
2:45 p.m.
I go and pick Cullen up from school. If Bjorn is up, I’ll take him with me since Craig is working, otherwise I’ll leave him sleeping while Craig’s working from home.
3:15 p.m.
I return home with Cullen. If Bjorn does come with me, we will often stop at the library or sometimes a park but Cullen often wants to go home to play with his Legos.
3:30 p.m.
The boys play together while Craig and I work.
4:30 p.m.
This is when the fighting usually begins, so it is time for a new activity. Some nights Cullen has swimming lessons, so he heads there with Craig. If the weather is nice, the boys will ride their bikes outside. If I have a second run, sometimes I’ll take one or both of the boys with me on that.
5:00 p.m.
I start working on dinner. Craig will watch the boys during this time while I make dinner.
6:00 p.m.
Dinner time. We do our best to sit down as a family as often as we can. I coach one night a week, and Craig usually has something at least one other night a week, but we try to have dinner as often as we can.
6:30 p.m.
The boys will play together some more, or they might watch a show if they haven’t already that day. I will clean the kitchen, Craig will pack Cullen’s lunch or wrap up some work for the day, and we tag-team on getting the house picked up from the day.
7:30 p.m.
Bath time and time to start getting ready for bed.
8:00 p.m.
Lights out for Bjorn. He usually falls asleep within 5-10 minutes.
8:30 p.m.
Lights out for Cullen. Cullen rarely falls asleep right away; he’s often up until 9:00/9:30p.m. (Nothing has changed since he was a baby. Ha!)
9:30 p.m.
Craig and I try to get to bed as soon as we can. I am usually wrapping up some work for the day, but I need at least 8 hours and would love 9 hours of sleep while I’m marathon training.
Luckily Bjorn and Cullen are good sleepers and both sleep through the night. Of course they have their nights where they don’t, but that only happens once a month or so.
The end.
