We took the day easy today as Craig had the day off from work for Martin Luther King, Jr. day. We slept in, lounged around the house before running a few errands in the afternoon, played a game, and then watched trashy TV.
Cullen has really gotten into playing card games and board games. He spent a lot of time playing with my parents when they were in town recently, and he learned the game Phase 10, so we played that together this afternoon.
Craig and I became obsessed with matcha lattes right after Bjorn was born. I introduced Craig to them, and we are regularly going to Summit Spice and Tea to get more matcha. I make them basically following this recipe from Minimalist Baker.
Every Monday night my friends and I get together for a run and The Bachelor. It is the one TV show I watch, and if it wasn’t for my friends coming over, I wouldn’t be watching. Ha!
We first run about 4 miles together and then have dinner while watching The Bachelor. Tonight I pushed Cullen in the stroller because it wasn’t that cold–a whole 20*F! That’s 20-25 degrees warmer than it has been. (I forgot to restart my watch at one point, so I only captured 3.5 miles.)
Here’s a few other things we’ve been up to in the last few weeks.
This month we baptized Bjorn. (We like to say he was ‘bjorn’ again. 😉 Craig is having too much fun with puns with his name.) My parents were in town from Minnesota for the baptism, and Craig’s parents live here in Anchorage, so they were also in attendance.
My parents were in town the rest of the week after his baptism, and it was so nice having them around. We went for walks in the woods, and they took Cullen sledding while I stayed back with Bjorn since he was napping, plus it was pretty cold for him to be outside for long periods of time. We also went to the downtown museum, went to toddler play time at The Dome, and played a lot of board games and card games.
My mom played school with Cullen, which he absolutely loved! My mom would ring a bell to signal the start of school, she would take roll call, and then they would say the pledge of allegiance together. It was really cute.
I got spoiled having them around because that meant I got to run during the day, went to a PT appointment by myself, grocery shopped alone, and knock out a bunch of computer work.
This is a classic Bjorn look. . . .our perplexed little boy.
One afternoon/evening I took Cullen downhill skiing, and he had so much fun. Surprisingly he got the hang of it pretty quickly–alternating his skis between ‘pizza’ (snowplowing) and ‘french fries’ (going straight). I want to go again, but it needs to warm up as it has been so cold lately!
Like I said, it has been incredibly cold here since the beginning of the year. Almost every day has been below zero, but surprisingly I haven’t resorted to the treadmill yet for any of my runs. I even pushed Cullen in the stroller for a very short run. He was super bundled up.
Running has been going really well, and I’ve been doing some track intervals even. I am feeling stronger each week and will be giving a four month postpartum update soon.
Tomorrow is back to life with two boys by myself, but I don’t mind. It’s nice to get back in our regular routine.
