Gift Guide for Runners – 2019

I’m pretty sure if you gave every runner a new pair of socks + a pair of mittens/gloves, they would love it every single time. I don’t know what it is but so many customers come into the store and buy socks for the runner in their life. I guess they’re easy to give and people love receiving them.

However, if you need some more creative ideas, here are some I’ve rounded up. I have something for those who run in really cold climates, those who run in the dark, and those who don’t have to deal with either. Everything is very practical (because I’m all about practicality), and I’ve included several items that are in that $20-$30 range.

Happy shopping as we are down to just a couple weeks left before Christmas!

Running Vest
A good insulated running vest can span many seasons and many different weather conditions. This running vest has reflective detailing, extra pockets, and is water resistant for that rain/sleet/snow you might encounter. There is also a jacket version of this vest that I have and wear on days when the temperature is below freezing.

Sunglasses
These $25 no-bounce, no-slip, polarized running sunglasses fly off the shelves like hotcakes at the running store I work at. The colors are endless and for $25 you can have a pair to go with every outfit. (Or you can lose a pair or two and not sweat it.) The pair pictured above might look a little too flashy, but they are actually really cute and fun.

2-in-1 Mitten/Glove
A good pair of mittens or gloves can make a big difference in how comfortable you feel while running in the elements. I have several different types, styles, and thicknesses of gloves and mittens for different temperatures. These mitten/glove combination are perfect if your hands start out chilly but then heat up after a mile or two like mine do.

Beanie Hat
Once the temperature drops to about 25*F, then I have to wear a hat to stay comfortable and warm on my run. This sweat-wicking hat that’s also cute and keeps your head warm but not overly sweaty is perfect for those cold days. There is also a matching neck warmer to go with it.

Long Sleeve Baselayer
I recently discovered these long sleeve baselayers on Amazon, and they look and fit just like the Lululemon Swiftly Long Sleeve Crew. If you want it skin-tight, stick to your normal size; if you want a little looser fit, order one size larger. I wish I would have ordered it one size larger.

Lighted Vest
I will not stop raving about this lighted vest. It makes running in the dark so much safer for you and for motorists to be able to see you. I’ve gotten so many compliments and questions regarding this vest while out running. People notice it! And if you want your running loved-one to stay safe, get this for them.

New Balance Sweatshirt
This sweatshirt is one of my favorite sweatshirts to wear casually. I also had the funnel neck version last year that I loved, but I love this year’s hooded version even more. It is the perfect (slightly) cropped, lose fit, waffle print sweatshirt to wear after a run.

Socks
When the days are really cold (below 20*F), I have to cover my ankles. I love these tall Stance socks for their fun pattern, how well they stay up, and just overall how well they fit. (Trust me, after working at a running store, you become very picky about your socks.)

Fleece Headband
These are the fleece headbands that I wear all the time. (I have 4 of them. Ha!) There are fleeced lined ones for colder days and non-fleece lined ones for cool days. I have both styles and love both of them. They do not slip down and do a great job wicking sweat. This brand also makes super cute hats and neck warmers as well.

Let me know what else you would add to this list–either items you have on your wish list or items that make great gifts for runners.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
