There was a new race in town on New Year’s Eve: the Northern Lights Resolution Run.
It was my first race after having Cullen, and I was pretty excited.
This was Cullen’s first race cheering mommy on, and the first of many for him! He was a good baby the entire time, which maybe mom happy and relieved.
The race started at 6 p.m. and the course was filled with all sorts of fun lights: a black-lit tunnel, paper lanterns strung up, lighted paper bags, and fun music throughout. It was definitely the most entertaining race I have ever run!
They also handed out flashing lights, glow sticks, and people were encouraged to wear their own lighted-gear.
We started and ended at the new Alaska Airlines Center, which was nice that we could wait inside before and afterwards, although it wasn’t that cold. The temperature got up to 40*F during the day.
The course wasn’t quite three miles and looped around University Lake and on the snow-packed trails. It was actually very slippery in places–so slippery that I had to stop and walk in a few sections. I regretted not having my shoes studded, which was my own fault.
I wasn’t that concerned about my pace, but I was trying to push my pace a little. I felt really good throughout the whole race. I didn’t feel the C-section incision, which hasn’t been the case on all of my other daily runs. (I am in the pink jacket with green compression socks.)
Surprisingly I managed to place 5th for the women. I really don’t think my pace was 7:19 minutes per mile.
I think this is going to turn into a very popular race in the future. It was a ton of fun, and I heard nothing but positive comments from others as well.
We’re starting Cullen young with his racing experience.
After the race we headed downtown to hang out with the rest of the family and watch the fireworks.
Me, my soon-to-be sister-in-law Amanda, and mother-in-law Kelly
Cullen didn’t like the fireworks so we left, which was fine because I was freezing.
That sounds like a fun run!!! Did Sadie go and wear her lighted collar?
No. I gets to be a bit much to wrangle her and the kid. Plus she is not a runner.
You have a soon-to-be sister-in-law? That’s awesome! Congratulations on your first post-baby race!
That’s a fun way to get back to running and to finish the year! Congrats on your speedy time!
I wanted to do that race this year, but I chickened out with the weather! I had my mom with me and a friend that I’m trying to convince to start running outside with me, and I thought it would be bad news if we were all sliding all over the place and falling down. Your recap makes me definitely want to do it next year though!
I think those people with studded shoes were just fine. 🙂
