Pregnancy Update – 5 Months

Today I hit the 5-month mark of my pregnancy. It is becoming more real with my growing belly but still a little surreal. We were supposed to have my ‘big’ ultrasound today but there was some miscommunication between the receptionist and myself that resulted in us not being able to have it done. Bummer, because I was looking forward to it.

In general, I am still feeling good, and there’s not much for me to complain about. I am still running—not as much as I used to, but I did run a half-marathon on Saturday.

Food cravings: Nothing in particular. I don’t feel like I am crazy as many savory foods as I was at the beginning. Prior to getting pregnant, I had cravings and the cravings I have these days for certain foods don’t feel any more intense. I haven’t been eating as healthy as I do though. I’ve definitely given in to foods I wouldn’t normally eat: fish and chips, donuts, hamburgers, and snacking closer to bedtime. Part of me enjoys splurging but the other part of me feels guilty because I am directly feeding someone else too.

Food aversions: I can’t think of anything.

Weight gained: 11 pounds

Baby movement: I think I’ve felt the baby move? I’m not really sure though. Craig said he could hear the baby moving around when he put his ear to my belly.

Running: Running has its moments. Some days I feel good, other days I really struggle. I can tell my pace is slowing down and carrying the extra weight and my protruding belly feel different.

Other notes: Sleep is still good. My jeans are fitting a little tighter these days, but I haven’t bought a belly band or maternity jeans yet. Sometimes it is a little hard to bend at my waist to do things such as tie my shoes, but that’s mostly if I have tight jeans on as well.

I had a customer actually guess I was pregnant, which surprised me because I’m sure most people don’t even think twice. I wasn’t wearing a tight-fitting shirt, but she said she was a labor and delivery nurse, which explained how she guessed.

Weekly mileage June 16 – 22

Monday

6 miles/52:00/average pace – 8:30 + lifted weights for 45 minutes

This was an okay run for me. Running definitely isn’t as easy as it used to be.

Tuesday

off – I had no motivation to run. Plus I was trying to work on my blog that was giving me problems.

Wednesday

7 miles/58:00/average pace – 8:17

I ran with Joanne, which was nice to have the company, but my lower abdomen didn’t feel quite right.

Thursday

4 miles/32:50/ average pace – 8:14

Easy miles by myself. Not a particularly enjoyable run. Felt slow, calves hurt, and just didn’t feel that great.

Friday

off – Rest day before the race.

Saturday

14 miles total

Mayor’s Half-Marathon – 13.1 miles/1:43

Fun to run another race. It wasn’t a very fast course, but I was still satisfied with my time.

Sunday

off – I was SO sore from the race the day before. Not as sore as I am after a marathon, but I was definitely hurting. I am sore in places I have never been sore before: adductors, groin, and hip flexors. It is weird, and I’m not sure if the one mile of trail running that caused it and/or the pregnancy, but I was definitely out of commission for running today.

Total: 31 miles

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
