Make-up Finds + Meet-up

I’m taking a break from running and healthy eating to talk about some new make-up products I’ve tried—some I love, some I’m indifferent on, and some I probably wasted my money on.

Clarisonic – Mia

I was really excited to try out the Clarisonic based off a couple rave reviews by others. But I have to say I’m not all that impressed. I will say it has made my skin incredibly soft—baby-skin soft, but beyond that, I really haven’t seen a difference in my complexion and for over $100, I’m not sure it was worth it. I will still continue to use it since I have it, but maybe I’ll try to sell it on E-Bay one day. (Side note question: Does anyone ever have success selling items on E-Bay?)

MAC – Mineralize Powder

Two products I will always go to the department-store make-up counters for are foundation and powder. I just find it too risky to try and match my skin shade with the products at a store where you aren’t able to test out the products.

I really do like this powder by MAC. Prior to this I had Clinique pressed powder, which I also liked. I really can’t tell the difference between the brands. Both do a great job covering and smoothing out my uneven skin tone. I love the natural finish and matte color this one gives me. DSC_0006

MAC – Fix + Skin Refresher

I am not easily coerced into buying something that I don’t really need, but this was one product that the make-up gal at the MAC counter sold me on. I don’t even know what it was, but I thought my skin looked a lot better with this finishing spray on my face. But honestly now that I’ve tried it at home a few times, I’m not so convinced it is making my skin look any better. It must have been the magic mirror and lights at the department store. DSC_0005

L’Oreal – The Super Slim liquid eyeliner

In the past, I’ve always used a pencil eye liner, but I wanted a bolder look, so I gave this liquid eyeliner by L’Oreal a try. Like I said, I’ve never tried any other liquid eyeliner before, but I’ve been impressed with this guy so far. I find it pretty easy to apply. It goes on smooth, but it is easier to make a mistake when applying. You definitely need a steady hand. This is like a marker, so very easy to apply. (I was going to try gel eyeliner but chickened out because it seemed too complicated.)DSC_0007

Maybelline – Master Drama

This is the pencil eyeliner I use on my lower lid. I like it. I don’t think it is anything outstanding, but it does its job. I don’t know that a pencil eyeliner from a department store make-up counter that costs two or three times as much would be worth it, so I’ll stick to the cheap brands. DSC_0008

Clinique – All About Eyes

I got this in a free make-up kit for buying other products at the Cinique counter a while back. I would use this if my eyes were puffy in the morning. I don’t know that I noticed that much of a difference when I used it. I do think it helped keep my eye shadow in place longer though. I definitely do not plan on buying this after this container is gone. DSC_0009

BIC Band – Skinny Black

I am loving my new skinny black BIC Band! I have two sparkly bands, but I wanted something with a little less bling-bling.

Hey Anchorage Locals!

Anyone interested in getting together Saturday morning for a run? I’ve planning on running 7 miles—barring my injuries don’t flare up. Let me know in the comments section below if you are interested—or you can send me an e-mail. Feel free to suggest a time and place that would work well for you.

Any new beauty finds you are loving?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I don’t know if I have a funny shaped head (highly likely) or if I just haven’t found a good headband. Does the BIC stay in place better than others?

The BIC Bands are like the Sweaty Bands. Both brands are not your traditional plastic headband. They are made of fabric and have a piece of elastic that goes all the way around your head fits to any shaped head. Plus, they have a velvet-like material on the back that prevent the headband from slipping. They are great–you should definitely check them out!!

Hi, Michelle: Would love to get together for a run sometimes but you are much faster than I am, sigh, sigh, plus I’m going to be out-of-town for the next three weekends in a row. But good news, the Coastal Trail is clearing! There are large sections of dry pavement. So exciting! The section from Point W. to Kincaid is still pretty snowy/slushy but the rest is runnable, and you can work up a decent pace (finally!) on the dry sections. I did 13 miles yesterday and it was heaven. Saw five moose, too. Cheers and happy running.

Thanks for the update on the Coastal Trail. I still think we should get a whole bunch of people together to go for a run–all paces welcome!

It took 6 months for my skin to see a change with the clarisonic. My skin is finally clear (I’ve had acne forever). There are different types of brushes. The acne brush has been working for me. Also Target allows you to return opened makeup.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing about both things!
