Happy 30th Anniversary to my in-laws, Steve & Kelly!!
Today we celebrated Steve and Kelly’s 30th wedding anniversary with a food, family, friends, and good times.
However, the preparations got started last night with roasting a pig in a box.
Last night I went over to “supervise” the roasting of a pig from a local farmer. “The men” built this box, seasoned the pig, and put it in the box overnight to cook.
My husband, Craig, was the master chef!
After watching them get started, I came home to go to bed, but before I went to bed, I read Tina’s post on her husband prepping a pig and roasting their own pig in a very similar way!
Not only were we roasting a pig on the same night, we also had pizza to eat, and there was a pug dog at our shindig as well! pigs + pizza + pugs . . . what a coincidence!
This morning before heading over to the party, I ran 10 miles in 1:23. I actually cut my miles back this week, so it wasn’t a super long run.
Overall, I felt decent and was glad to get the miles in. 🙂
Oh, and I forgot to post a picture of how bit up my legs got from the mosquitos during our camping trip to Denali.
They may not look all that bit up, but trust me, there were a lot of red spots all over my legs.
After my run, I got ready and then picked up a few last-minute party items.
When I arrived, we got everything set up for the event.
My aunt, Sue (who is visiting for a couple of weeks), and I were in charge of making the caesar salad.
Look. . . .I even wore a short-sleeve shirt!! (And yesterday I had shorts on—amazing!!)
Then it was time to take the pig out of the box. . . .
and start cutting him (or her?) up.
Yes, even I, who grew up on a farm, was a little creeped out by the head.
My aunt, Sue, helped out by cutting the beef. There was meat a-plenty. . . .we also had chicken. 😉
My mother-in-law’s sister made this beautiful (truly Alaskan) cake!
The top is supposed to be S + K etched into a birch tree (We have a lot of paper birch trees up here.) with moose cake toppers.
The bottom layer includes pictures of: moose, fireweed, and mountains in a 3-D effect on top. It was absolutely amazing!
It was a fun day and a wonderful way to celebrate that many years of marriage.
Hopefully, (God willing) Craig and I will be able to celebrate that many years (and more) together!
It was a great party and everything went well.
Happy Anniversary Steve and Kelly!! A very nice picture of both of you. Wish we could have been there to celebrate. It brings back memories when we were there. What a beautiful anniversary cake!! That must have taken her a long time to decorate. Thanks for supporting the pork producers!! We wish you many more years of happiness together!!
