July 4th was full of unexpected events!
First there was the unplanned race I ran with less than 12 hours of notification.
Then there was a trip to the ER.
Back in December, my sister dislocated her shoulder while attempting to ski down a double black diamond ski run in Big Sky.
Since then it hasn’t given her any problems, but last night while playing around in the pool, she dislocated it again.
I took her to the emergency room on July 4th. . . hoping to beat all the kids who may be there with injuries from fireworks.
My sister is holding up one finger because it was her first time to the ER. (I guess she was excited about this. :-?)
As to be expected, it took forever to get her shoulder popped back in—even though we were the only people there!
My sister’s facial expression tell you what we thought of the physicians assistant who helped her. He was a little strange and did not seem that confident with what he was about to do.
He actually didn’t even know her shoulder popped back into place when it happened. (My sister did though.)
After 1.5 hours, we finally left and watched a few fireworks while driving back to camp.
~~~~~~~
One thing that happened yesterday that was expected was an annual picture in the corn field.
The saying goes: “knee high by the 4th of July,” so we always have to go out into the corn field to make sure the corn is taller than our knees.
Well, as you can see that was definitely the case.
Me, my dad, and my grandpa (three generations)
Actually, the corn is not doing that well this year. Many years it is knee high by JUNE 4th.
Hopefully there won’t be unexpected happenings today! I’ve got lunch and dinner plans with family and friends, so it should be a fun-filled day!
Question
Have you ever been to the ER?
I have only *taken* people to the ER, and I would be more than happy to keep it that way!
I went to the ER once for stitches by my left eye. Not fun. Glad your sister is ok!
I have taken Craig to the E.R.! I remember pulling up to the hospital with all the boys in my car and Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” came on the radio… silly me thinking we needed to rush in b/c of Craig’s profusely bleeding head turned the car off. I got yelled at by everyone – including Craig – that we had to wait until the end of the song. They all sang along – and then we got to go inside.
Ha! Ha! That is TOO funny!!! I could *totally* see Craig doing that and making you listen until the song was done. . . .he still does that to me!!
oh your poor sister! i’ve been to the ER three times, all for minor things. the worst was a dog bite when i was out running. no fun at all. last night i got stung by a wasp, but fortunately didn’t have any severe reaction- just pain & swelling, so i didn’t have to go to the ER.
Oh my gosh, I got bit by a dog last summer! Did the dog break your skin and cause you to bleed quite a bit?
That sucks for your sister! I’ve never been to the ER for myself since I was a small kid, but had to take a friend when he sliced his hand on glass. Not a fun place to spend your night
I hope your sister is feeling better!! My little sister once popped her shoulder out of place and had to wait so long in the ER she accidentally popped it back in place herself!!
My sister was tempted to try and pop it back in herself, but it is always kind of scary. Plus you always wonder, well . . . what if I make it worse?
I got to go to the ER last fall for a softball to the face. A 1.5 hour wait is pretty good–I think we were there for about four hours.
Yuck! I remember seeing pictures!
I have dislocated my shoulder probably 100 times since I was in junior high. I finally had 2 surgeries to fix it when I was in college. It is so painful! Hope your sister is OK!
Despite all those injuries, I have never been the ER.
So you just pop it back in yourself each time? Does it hurt? Do you have a good method?
ouch!!!! hope her shoulder gets to feeling better. and sending good wishes for the corn. i have no attachment to the farms around here, but i hear a lot of complaining that the lack of rain has been pretty detrimental to the crops.
nope, never been to an er for me…for my brother, husband, friends, yes.
For my parents, it has been the opposite: they have had too much rain.
