On the Mend

I do believe my glute is on the mend!

2.5 miles of running (with only 2 stops just to stretch things out a bit) and NO pain!! Woohoo!! I ran outside on Saturday in 10* weather, and it was the most wonderful I’ve felt all week. I love running like no other—even in the bitter cold!

I also had a pretty sunrise to look at while running. Remember this is at 9:30 a.m.!

Afterwards I went to the gym to lift weights for 25 minutes. I did some strengthening exercises for my glute because the one that has been giving me problems is much weaker than the healthy one.

Then it was time to get ready to go to brunch with Craig. (Sorry this is super blurry.)

Craig and I have discovered the best place in town to have brunch: Ginger Restaurant. We went there 2 months ago, and since that time we have been saying how much we need to go back. So after getting a gift card for Craig’s birthday (thanks Glen and Carol!), we decided to cash it in.

I had the Triple Frittatas, which were really good! One frittata had mushroom and veggies, the one in the middle had sausage and potatoes, and the third one had shrimp and cheese with home-style fries on the side. All three were very delicious, but I’d have to say the shrimp and cheese one was my favorite—not sure why since that kind of seems like an odd combination.

Such a beautiful and fun display. Loved every bite!

Craig ordered the biscuits and gravy. These were to die for! So so so good!

Even though we loved our dishes, we both decided we liked what we had the first time. For me: Breakfast Tacos. For him: Hot Mess.

After getting back home, I changed my outfit for an afternoon out with a friend. We went shopping at Target and a local grocery store that specialized in various ethnic foods: Red Apple Market. I definitely saw some foods I had never seen before and wouldn’t know how to cook.

After some laundry, cleaning, and talking to my family, it was time to change my outfit for the third time—fifth time if you count my pajamas and running clothes. Ha! I used to do the same thing as a kid, right Mom and Dad?

Craig and I met some friends at Bear’s Tooth Theater Pub for a movie. We watched the movie Lawless, which was quite intense. WAY too intense for me! I had to cover my eyes many times.

Sunday has been filled with church, getting ready for the work-week, and going to yoga this afternoon. 90 minutes of Bikram yoga: my sweat session for the week.

I’m going to try running again Monday morning, so I’m hoping it goes well!

More Crosstraining

Not much new over here. I’m still feelin’ kind of down. I’m sure it has to do with that time of the year when the weather changes to my least favorite season, and I know there are going to be several cold and dark winter months ahead. Sigh. Plus, the holidays are coming, which would normally be a happy time of year, but since I won’t be seeing my family, I just don’t get that excited anymore.

Here’s a quick recap on my weekend.

Saturday morning, I decided to go swimming. I have tried riding the stationary bike, using the elliptical, lifting weights, practicing yoga. . . .basically anything and every kind of cross training, but I just don’t get the same high like I do after running. Usually swimming makes me feel pretty good, but even swimming didn’t do the trick this time.

It is chilly walking outside with wet hair! I’m trying to force a smile.

After swimming I warmed up with a delicious bowl of New Year Noodle Soup from 101 Cookbooks. I love the recipes I find here!

And a whole bunch of these crackers. Oh, are they addicting and super good!

Saturday afternoon our friends had their kids baptized and their wedding blessed at our church. Craig was a part of their ceremony.

Saturday night, Craig and I watched The Campaign. I knew I wouldn’t like it, and I was right. I am not a fan of crude humor.

Sunday morning I made one of my favorite breakfasts: toast + scrambled egg + avocado. So simple, yet so good.

After church and prepping some food for the week, it was off to yoga for a 90 minute Bikram class. I had a good practice except the two gentlemen on either side of me were kind of distracting. One was doing some majorly heavy breathing throughout the entire class and the other had some majorly bad b.o.

Now I’m out the door for a run. I’m hoping there’s no pain in my glute, but I’m not very optimistic.

Also, go check out my guest post over at Maisymak! I wrote about running in the winter. As much as I despise winter, I can’t give up the addiction!!

It was a very good weekend for me: productive and relaxing. The best of both worlds.

Craig and I helped a couple of friends move on Friday night. Saturday morning I did my long run of 20 miles. I did the first 10 miles by myself, and then Craig joined me on his bike for the last 10. I love the uninterrupted time we have to talk and hang out. I never thought I’d say this, but that was definitely the easiest 20 miles I’ve ever ran! I averaged 8:31 minutes/mile, which is not far off my marathon goal pace of 8:12 minutes/mile. (That would get me a 3:35 and qualify me for Boston!) I hope this is a good indication of how the marathon will go! Saturday afternoon Craig and I went to Bear’s Tooth for a late lunch. Saturday evening was spent cleaning and preping food for the week.

Sunday morning I woke up at 5 a.m. (not by choice), so I got up did a few things around the apartment, and then went out for a 6 mile run. As soon as I got back, I ate a quick breakfast and then went to yoga. I like going to yoga after running because it forces to get some quality stretching in. After church, Craig and I went to Middle Way Cafe because I was craving a salad and as hard as I try, the salads I make at home never turn out that well. The last one I made was so awful that I ended up throwing some of it out—something I never do. This afternoon/evening I’ve been busy prepping more food and trying to get everything in order for the week. Having everything ready to go for Monday morning makes the transition a little bit easier into the start of the work-week.
