Friday’s Happenings

I took today off from running. I’ve been pretty sore this week from lifting weights and doing yoga, so I went to the gym and did the elliptical instead for 30 minutes.

After about 22 minutes my left foot started to go numb. This isn’t the first time it has happened; it happens anytime I go on the elliptical. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yesterday I did run 4 miles and saw 3 moose. They were cute and everything but in my way. I had to pick a different route to get home—slightly annoying.

After a shower a quick breakfast this morning, it was off to get my hair cut at Salon Ivy in downtown Anchorage. Salon Ivy had a Groupon a while back that I cashed in today.

I just ended up getting a trim, but I was very impressed with the quality of customer service. The owner, Brian, was very friendly and welcoming. (I often think the owner is going to be stuck-up or snooty—especially for a new client.) He did a deep condition on my hair that left it feeling extremely soft. (I guess my hair was really dry. Why can’t I ever tell these things?)

Sharin then cut my hair and evened out my uneven layers and now everything feels healthy again. Yeah!

I wasn’t crazy with how she styled my hair but that is easy to fix. (She curled it with a flat iron.)

I had some time to kill so I went to Habitat Housewares in the University Mall and thought about getting this pig grill for my parents.

For those of you who know my parents, they are actually “retiring” from the hog business and will soon have no more pigs on their farm—as of this spring. It makes Craig sad because he won’t be able to enjoy any more of their bacon or make his bacon pancakes. They will still farm corn and soybeans.

Then it was time to meet Craig for lunch at Moose’s Tooth.

Moose’s Tooth and Bear’s Tooth are sister restaurants in town and are very popular for the locals and highly recommended to anyone who comes to visit. Craig and I often go to Bear Tooth because it is closer to where we live and seems less busy than Moose’s Tooth, but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table today!

I got the lunch special: a salad + a (giant) slice of pizza for $7.95. That’s a pretty good bargain for Anchorage.

Craig got two pieces of pizza and a salad.

After we got done eating, Craig had to go back to work. I didn’t have any other commitments—and I was freezing, so I stopped at Starbucks (something I rarely do) and ordered a misto in hopes of warming myself up. Not only it is really cold here today (7*), but I always get really cold after I eat. I swear all of the (little) blood that was circulating through my body, goes straight to my stomach for digestion which left me shivering by the end of the meal today.

I ordered a tall decaf cafe misto with gingerbread flavoring. I told the guy 2 (of 3) pumps of gingerbread, but I think the gal put 3 in, but it wasn’t too sweet for me. Usually lattes are too sweet for me but this was just right.

It took many outtakes to get a decent picture of myself, and after a while this is what I felt like.

After getting frustrated with the camera and photographer, I just ended up making silly faces since none of the nice faces were turning out. (Um, yes, I notoriously leave that cupboard door open.)

And here’s a picture of some snow if any of you are missing snow this winter/Christmas/holiday season. I will gladly give you some of ours! You can also have a side of 3:30 p.m. sunset. :-?

Hope you have a splendid last day of 2011 tomorrow!

Why I Don’t Photograph Everything I Eat

Today was a successful day. I got (almost) everything checked off my to-do list!

- laundry

- general cleaning

- cookies baked

- (some) homework done

- school work done

- blog post (almost done ;) )

This morning got started early at 6 a.m. because I haven’t been sleeping well. A combination of school stress and thinking about all I wanted to accomplish has left me waking up far earlier than necessary.

When I got up this morning, I folded laundry, emptied the dishwasher, and then got ready to ride my bike to Starbucks to do some work.

It was still on the dark side when I rode my bike, so I made sure to turn on my blinking light. (This is a headlamp light I strapped to my bike. I’m too cheap to buy a real bike light.)

I chose to go to Starbucks because I have been wanting to try a Pumpkin Spice Latte since its the current craze, and I know it won’t be around forever.

That would be a tall decaf pumpkin spice latte with 2 shots of pumpkin spice and no whipped cream.

I thought the latte was okay. I actually don’t know how much I lattes anyway. I think I’ll stick to my drip coffee or Americano with cream and sugar.

I also enjoyed a bowl of overnight oats.

My overnight oats are always super thick by the morning! Love them that way.

After doing some work and attempting to do some studying, it was time to bike back home.

It was a beautiful morning.

Fall is definitely here!

I have a love/hate relationship with fall. I absolutely love fall, but I hate what comes after it: the-season-that-shall-not-be-named!!

When I got back home, I showered and got ready for church. After church, I made a quick stop at the grocery store for some weekly essentials.

Then it was time for lunch.

And this is why I don’t photograph everything I eat. Would you want to eat this? I wouldn’t either by looking at it but it sure tasted good!

I also had some Kombucha No. 3. (I saved the rest for Craig because he loves kombucha!)

I had been wanting to try this flavor—it has lavender in it! It was good!!

Some Ben & Jerry’s rounded out my lunch. :)

I’m enjoying the rest of my evening with Craig. . . . trying to forget about my Sunday blues. I’ve had them all day. :(

Question

How do you remedy your Sunday blues?

Saturday’s 20 Miler

One of today’s “highs“. . . . .there are buds finally on the trees! :)

I am excited for how green everything is going to look in a couple of weeks!

Now we just need some rain for the brown grass.

Another “high” for today. . . . my long run!

Distance: 20 miles

Time: 3 hours

Once again, I split up my run by running 5 miles to my friend Jen’s place, then we ran 10 miles together, and then I ran 5 miles back home. It was the perfect way to break up the distance.

For the majority of the run, I felt really good. It was windy and running against the wind was kind of brutal, but the temperature was comfortable and the sun was a-shining!

I did get really thirsty and needed some fuel towards the end. (I only took one gel packet, which was not enough!) I even started to feel slightly light-headed, which I knew wasn’t good, but I made it!

As soon as I stepped through the door, I made a beeline for food!

I was craving something salty + sugar (for quick energy)+ something cold to drink!

Normally I would never drink pop, but I got this free at school and the thought of this carbonated, cold beverage sounded absolutely wonderful after my run today. And it was! (I felt a little better knowing it wasn’t made with high fructose corn syrup.)

There was also tons of water consumed (and other food too)!

After eating, I took an ice bath, and then got ready to head to school to work on grades. (Only 4 more days of school left!)

Although, before heading to school, I made a pit-stop at Starbucks to partake in their happy hour: half-priced Frappuccinos! (Tomorrow’s the last day!)

I ordered a tall decaf light mocha coconut frappuccino. (No way did it come off the tongue like that when I ordered it though!)

For the past couple hours, I worked on grades, but I am only about half-way done. I’m going to need to come back tomorrow to finish. Oh well, it’s all good.

I’m off to get some dinner!
