Christmas Gifts for Runners

If there is a runner in your life who is in need of a running-related Christmas gift, fret no more. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite running products!

BIC Bands

These seriously do not slip at all! This skinny sparkle gunmetal one is my favorite.

Race hanger for medals

Sadly I think most runners box up their medals and never (proudly) display them. Now you can give them a way to brag about their successes when people come over to your hourse. Or if you are really crafty, I’m sure you could make this yourself.

Hanger for race bibs

I seriously need to get something like this for myself!

Coasters with Race Bibs

Another great idea for those old race bibs.

Headphones

I can’t say I’ve personally tried these out, but I have heard go things about Yurbuds.

Subscription to Runner’s World magazine

I honestly read my Runner’s World magazine cover-to-cover each month. Even as a pretty experienced runner, I pick up on new things each issue.

Compression socks

I have a pair of the progressive white CEP compression socks and absolutely love them. I highly recommend them! I wear them while running and during recovery as well. (Read my review here.)

Garmin

I would recommend any of the Garmin Forerunners—their GPSs for running. I have the 405 and highly recommend it. (You can read my review here.)

Garmin also came out with a Forerunner 10 that is a little more simple but does everything I ever use my watch for anyway: tracking my mileage, pace, and overall time.

A destination vacation race

Take your loved one on a vacation and allow them to run a race in the area during the trip as well.

Anything from Lululemon

If you have not been introduced to Lululemon clothes, you must check them out. Yes, they carry a pretty hefty price tag, but I get so much more wear out of these clothes any other brands.

These are two of my favorite items I’ve purchased:

You can’t go wrong with a Scuba Hoodie. They are comfortable, warm, and very cute.

I also love my Wunder Under Crops for yoga, running, and I even wear them as leggings with my riding boots on a regular basis. I love that the leg openings stay down and don’t slide up towards my knees. I would love another pair in this pattern or the light gray color.

And for the guys. . . .a 5 Year Basic Tee. This is one of Craig’s favorite shirts to wear. It is long enough for his torso and the fabric is super comfortable. Screen shot 2012-12-12 at 5.35.21 AM

Christmas will be here before you know it, so get going and support your loved one in their crazy habit of running. Hey, it helps us stay sane! :)

Please add a comment below sharing your favorite running item!

I Would Run to You

I saw this video linked on the Runner’s World Facebook page and had to repost it—it is just too cute!

Plus, it totally reminds me of the days when Craig and I were dating.

We dated long distance—me living in South Dakota, him in Portland, Oregon.

He picked up running when we first started dating to try and impress me, but once he knew he had won me over, he stopped.

I also love how the girl runs through a marching band (band nerd right here!), alongside a tractor (I grew up on a farm.), and eats an ice cream cone along the way (love me some ice cream).

Yoga Mat

One of those little things in life that brightens my day:

A new Runner’s World magazine! :)

I have not been sleeping well, so I decided to try and sleep in a little this morning instead of forcing myself out of bed super early for a run. It helped a little, but I still didn’t sleep that well. (sigh)

Instead of running, I lifted weights at home for 30 minutes. It was nice not to face the bitter cold air outside but still feel like I got a workout in to start my day off right.

I did hit the road this afternoon for a run. As soon as I got home from work, I laced up my shoes and ran 7 miles in 60 minutes. It was slow going at times because of the ice. I despise running in the winter so much!! At some points, I hardly felt like I was working out because I was going so slowly!! :(

Dinner

While I was out for my run, Craig cooked dinner for us!

Lentil Walnut Burgers

Thanks to Angela (from Oh She Glows) for this wonderful recipe! (You can find the original recipe here.)

Both Craig and I really like these burgers!

I had my doubts Craig would actually like them, but I was surprised when he said did! He said they were better than other vegetarian/vegan burgers I’ve made. I can deal with that.

Now that I’ve started taking yoga, I need yoga mat/towel recommendations. I borrowed my husband’s yoga mat which worked fine until I started sweating, which caused my mat to become very wet and slippery and “downward dog” somewhat difficult.

So, the question of the night:

What is your recommendation for a brand/style of yoga mat?
