Errands by Bike

I am so used to do a long run every Saturday morning that it felt weird not to have one in the plans. I decided that I would supplement a long bike ride for a long run instead. I thought about just going out for a long ride but decided I would kill two birds with one stone and do some errands as well.

I had all afternoon, so I even stopped to take pictures of the snow melting. It was a great feeling not to be rushed.  DSC_0006

The roads and sidewalks are nearly clear of any snow, but the paved trails around town still have quite a bit of snow on them. I had to stop and walk my bike through this section. DSC_0007

I was about one mile from home and almost to my first destination when I realized I didn’t have my bike lock. There was no way I was not going to lock my road bike up, so I had to go back home to get my lock. I’m glad I wasn’t pressed for time. DSC_0008

I had gotten my lock and was back on my way when the second mishap happened. I had to stop and get off my bike in order to get over the curb. My left foot was planted on the ground, and as I was swinging my right leg over my bike, I felt my foot get caught on the bike when I knew I was going to fall. I felt the left side of my body hit the pavement, scraping my elbow, hand, hip, knee, shin, and ankle. In all honestly, it really wasn’t that bad of a fall. My hand didn’t bleed that much and the pain subsided pretty quickly. But even though it wasn’t that bad of a fall, I’m surprised how sore my hip and shin are today. DSC_0010

I continued on to do my errands: Fred Meyer, Target, and the mall. It took me about 3+ hours to go to all these places. I was not able to bike very quickly between my destinations because I often had to bike on the sidewalk because of the busy roads. And biking on the sidewalks is always difficult with going up and down the curbs. Plus there were sections of ice, water, and mud on the sidewalks, so I took it slow through those sections. Anchorage is not the best city for biking. There are a lot of trails, but if you have to ride in the road, be prepared for some dirty looks and honks from some. DSC_0013

Even with the couple mishaps, it was fun to get out and be green by running errands on my bike. I am hoping I can do this more now that spring seems to be on its way. (I have a hard time calling it spring when there is still snow on the ground.) I know biking takes longer, but I think it is worth it.

Why I Don’t Photograph Everything I Eat

Today was a successful day. I got (almost) everything checked off my to-do list!

- laundry

- general cleaning

- cookies baked

- (some) homework done

- school work done

- blog post (almost done ;) )

This morning got started early at 6 a.m. because I haven’t been sleeping well. A combination of school stress and thinking about all I wanted to accomplish has left me waking up far earlier than necessary.

When I got up this morning, I folded laundry, emptied the dishwasher, and then got ready to ride my bike to Starbucks to do some work.

It was still on the dark side when I rode my bike, so I made sure to turn on my blinking light. (This is a headlamp light I strapped to my bike. I’m too cheap to buy a real bike light.)

DSC_0001

I chose to go to Starbucks because I have been wanting to try a Pumpkin Spice Latte since its the current craze, and I know it won’t be around forever.

That would be a tall decaf pumpkin spice latte with 2 shots of pumpkin spice and no whipped cream.

DSC_0004

I thought the latte was okay. I actually don’t know how much I lattes anyway. I think I’ll stick to my drip coffee or Americano with cream and sugar.

I also enjoyed a bowl of overnight oats.

DSC_0005

My overnight oats are always super thick by the morning! Love them that way.

After doing some work and attempting to do some studying, it was time to bike back home.

It was a beautiful morning.

Fall is definitely here!

I have a love/hate relationship with fall. I absolutely love fall, but I hate what comes after it: the-season-that-shall-not-be-named!!

When I got back home, I showered and got ready for church. After church, I made a quick stop at the grocery store for some weekly essentials.

Then it was time for lunch.

And this is why I don’t photograph everything I eat. Would you want to eat this? I wouldn’t either by looking at it but it sure tasted good!

cheese quesadilla + roasted potatoes (with ketchup) + nectarine

I also had some Kombucha No. 3. (I saved the rest for Craig because he loves kombucha!)

I had been wanting to try this flavor—it has lavender in it! It was good!!

DSC_0015

Some Ben & Jerry’s rounded out my lunch. :)

I’m enjoying the rest of my evening with Craig. . . . trying to forget about my Sunday blues. I’ve had them all day. :(

How do you remedy your Sunday blues?

Fall Fragrance

I went on a bike ride this morning instead of running.

I decided not to go running this morning because I ran 3 miles yesterday morning and 3 miles after school with the kids’ running club, so I thought it would be best to give my bum knee a little break.

DSC_0001

I am really enjoying my bike rides! It will never replace my running, but while I’ve been recovering from the half-marathon, I am all about the biking! Plus, I know I’ve got to get as many rides in before snow is on the ground for 6-7 months!! UGH!

It was pitch black outside when I started my ride this morning and only a hint of light when I was finishing up.

Breakfast

DSC_0009

I had some spinach in the fridge to use, so I whipped up a Green Monster Protein Smoothie this morning after my bike ride. I am not a huge fan of using just spinach for a salad, so if I don’t have any other type of lettuce on hand, I’ll use my spinach to make a Green Monster instead.

In the smoothie:

- milk

- frozen banana

- spinach

- vanilla extract

- chia seeds

- soy protein powder

I also had a piece of toast with peanut butter and jam.

I did spray some Gucci Guilty on my wrist at the department store the other day and really liked it!

The gal at the counter said guys really like this scent too.

Notes: Mandarin, Pink Pepper, Peach, Lilac, Geranium, Amber, Patchouli.
Style: Daring. Rich. Sexy.

Does anyone own this?

What fragrance are you (will you) be wearing this fall/winter?
