Let’s be honest, the main reason I wanted to go to Maui (over any other island) was for the beaches.
I have never been to Mexico, the Caribbean, or anywhere tropical, so it was time to change that. Plus, sunshine, warm weather, beaches, and palm trees sounded very nice in the middle of an Alaskan winter. (One that made national news for being awfully cruel this year.)

The first beach we went to was the infamous Kaanapali Beach. Three miles of gorgeous white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.

We ate our lunch on the beach, spent time people-watching, and soaked up every minute. Actually this particular day there were some clouds in the sky misting us with rain showers. It was the tiniest amount of rain I’ve ever felt, but it was enough to chill me—especially when the clouds blocked the sun. (Go figure, me getting cold in Hawaii!)

After sunning ourselves, we walked down the boardwalk that ran the entire length of the beach.

Craig (my one-with-nature boy) was obsessed with taking pictures of the birds.

The next time we spent time at the beach, we traveled a little further north to the Kapalua area.

This was Napili Bay near Kapalua in Maui.

A lot of kids had these boards that they rode on as the surf came up to the shore. It looked like fun.

The classic foot picture. The OCD part of me wishes Craig’s feet were crossed in this picture.

The beaches were pretty busy, but I didn’t mind. It was fun people-watching.

I loved every minute!

I loved how clear the water was. We went snorkeling in this area and saw a lot of fish, turtles, and even a couple of eels.

Off in the distance in the island of Molokai.

So beautiful.

We were actually able to walk to from Napili Bay to Kapalua Bay Beach on the walkway in-between the two beaches. This was nice because parking wasn’t always easy to come by in this area.

We also went to Kihei the day we flew out, which is located in central Maui. While we were there, we went to the following beaches:
- Wailea Beach Park
- Kamaole Beach Park
(Sorry, no pictures.)
I tried to go to the beaches that have been ranked as some of the most beautiful beaches, and I think I succeeded. However, since Craig burnt his entire back the third day of our trip, we couldn’t go to the beach every day. I guess that means I’ll just have to go back to check out the ones I missed. Bummer.
