I was fortunate to be able to breastfeed Cullen for 14 months before weaning him. During those 14 months, I trained for marathons, ran several races, put in weekly mileage in the 50s and 60s regularly, and topped out at 75 miles one week all without losing my milk supply. I credit that to eating enough calories each day, minimizing stress, and drinking enough water.
So far breastfeeding Bjorn is going well, and even though I haven’t had any supply issues, I still am going to do everything in my power to keep that supply up including making and eating these lactation bites.
This is actually a recipe from another mama friend who said I could share her recipe. She took several different recipes and pieced them together to make her own.
Cashew Chocolate Lactation Bites
Ingredients
2 cups old fashioned oats
1/2 cup milled flax seed
3 tablespoons brewer’s yeast
1 cup cashew butter
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoon coconut oil (melted)
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Directions
1. Add all ingredients except chocolate chips. Mix well until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
2. Roll mix into 2-tablespon sized balls. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Then transfer into container.
3. Store in fridge for up to 2 weeks.
I have made these multiple times already and almost always have a version on hand. Sometimes I’ll swap out the chocolate chips for shredded coconut, and other times I’ll sub cashew butter for peanut butter or almond butter. Every time they taste a little different, but they are always good no matter the variation.
Even Cullen likes them. 😉
