I completed my 5th race while pregnant. The distances keep getting shorter, but I am still able to race, so I’ll count my blessings.
I really, really had my doubts about racing the Snow City 5K, which is part of the Big Wild Life Runs (BWLR) race series. I told my sister on Friday that I would be lucky to be able to run 8 minute miles. And I told Craig right before I started it would take me about a half an hour to finish.
But like I’ve said before, I think my body knows when it’s time to perform and when it’s go time because I surprised myself with these results.
Chip time – 22:43, chip pace – 7:19 minutes/mile
6th place for the women
7:22 minutes/mile pace
2nd in my age group
I’ll take it!
I hardly did any warm-ups because my back started hurting when I tried to do a little jogging. I did some stretches and planned on taking the first 0.5 – 1 mile as a warm-up. Well, that didn’t really happen because as soon as I crossed the start line, my pace went to 7 minute miles. Oops.
I felt really good through the first and second mile, averaging right around a 7 minute mile pace, but the last mile was a little tough because I started to feel my abdominal muscles cramping a little. I slowed down to an 8 minute pace and constantly monitored how I was feeling.
Sometimes I often forget how pregnant I look until I see a side profile picture like this!
It was funny to see/hear people’s reactions when I passed by them. I got a “go momma” and some nice congrats at the end when people realized I was pregnant. I wanted someone on the sidelines cheering to say, “Don’t let the pregnant lady beat you!”
I think that’s what this guy was thinking! He was right behind me in one of the above photos and pushed it in to pass me at the very end. I thought I’d give him the benefit of the doubt and not damage his ego too much.
~~~~~~~
Running was nearly non-existent this week. I aggravated my back at the end of the previous week and wasn’t able to get in to see the chiropractor, so I was left doing other forms of exercise this week.
