What a busy week and weekend it has been. I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything done this weekend. But thankfully this blog post is the last thing on my to-do list and then it is off to bed!
Here’s a glimpse at what I’ve been up to.
I enjoy Bikram yoga, but the 90 minutes of class get to be kind of long, so this past week I took two different 60 minute classes and loved them! They were the perfect length, and I enjoyed mixing up the yoga poses and having different instructors.
I’ve tried several yoga studios in Anchorage and Anchorage Yoga is by far my favorite. The only downside is that the classes are filled to the brim, which makes doing some of the poses a little more difficult.
Today (Sunday) Craig and I went to the Anchorage Museum because it was free admission day! Woohoo!!
We went to the Body Worlds exhibit, which was pretty cool. They had several cadavers displaying the various muslces, all the vital organs, the nervous system, and blood vessels.
One of my favorite parts was where they had pictures of families from around the world showing the amount and type of food they consumed in one week.
We had made plans a couple weeks ago to go to the museum, but then a Groupon came out this past week for half price admissions to the Body Worlds exhibit—couldn’t have been more perfect!
Having fun taking my picture on the outside of the building.
We got a fresh layer of snow Saturday night, so everything is white again. (We hardly had any snow before this, but it was bitter cold.) I think my family in Minnesota has more snow than we do though!
On Friday at work, I decided to be extra festive and wear a costume. People were supposed to wear Christmas themed apparel: ties, socks, shirts, etc. But I decided to step up and bring my ‘A’ game by dressing up as a Christmas tree.
And as far as running. . . .well, unfortunately, I have not made much progress in that department. I ran 3 miles Friday morning and 3 miles again on Saturday morning. Friday was good, Saturday my glute was bothering me.
I do have an appointment with a physical therapist tomorrow (Monday), so I hope he can help me. I’m desperate! I am also trying to get in a with a sports massage therapist and give acupuncture a try.
Alright, sadly that’s all the time I have. But I will write more later! I have A Runner’s Christmas Wish List post coming up, so if you need a gift for a runner, check back mid-week!
cute christmas costume!
Thanks!
That’s so cool that you went to the Bodyworlds exhibit!!! I want to see it so bad, and it was JUST here (well, in Richmond VA, about 2 hours from me) before Alaska. Silly me didn’t hear about it being there until 3 days before it left, and didn’t get to see it. I think I actually thought about coming to visit YOU and seeing it then when I heard it was going to Alaska next. 🙂
Well, if you ever do make it to Alaska, be sure to let me know!
Hey Michelle,
I have a question for you – when you do your early morning runs in the dark do you wear a headlamp or anything? I recently moved back to AK and have been running indoors all winter since it’s been so cold, but I want to transition to early morning (6 am-ish) now that it’s warming up. I’ve never run with a headlamp before, and I’ve frequently ran on the Coastal trail at night in the winter, but mornings seem somehow darker/creepier. Do you manage okay without a headlamp?
Also, what’s the longest you run outside in the winter when you’re not injured? I haven’t ran more than 8 miles since October and it’s slowly killing my soul. (Though I shouldn’t complain since I’m not injured… hope you heal soon!)
Thanks!
~ Leah
No, I do not wear a headlamp when I run in the morning. I know I should, but it is SO light out with the lights reflecting off the snow. I definitely wouldn’t use it for seeing, but I’m sure cars would appreciate me using it. I just try to stay off to the side or on sidewalks. There’s hardly anyone out that early anyhow, so I don’t feel unsafe. Oooo. . yeah, I’m not sure how I’d feel about running on the Coastal Trail in the morning. I DO NOT run on trails in town when it is dark. I stick to the neighborhoods. I don’t remember the longest run I’ve done in the winter, but I’m guessing around 15 miles??
