You know you are getting old (and have no life) when you spend Saturday night at the grocery store with your spouse!
Actually Craig and I had a lot of fun grocery shopping last night! 🙂 In the past, Craig and I would disagree on what to buy at the grocery store–he’s impulsive, I’m not–and our shopping trip would result in giving each other the silent treatment, but as we’ve learned to understand each other, this time we had an enjoyable time walking the aisles and purchasing essentials for the week!
Before setting out on our trip, I loaded up on the veggies for the night since I hadn’t had any yet.
Roasted broccoli and carrots. I would highly recommend trying roasted carrots. The flavor is similar to a cooked carrot but definitely not the mushiness of a cooked one!
I also had half of this giant Honeycrisp apple that was on sale for $1.99/lb. That’s a steal of a deal for Alaska and considering other bloggers were paying $2.99/lb.
We did purchase and try this tea. It has a nice mate tea flavor and enhanced with the peach flavor. Definitely a good recommendation.
This morning got started bright and early again at 5:00 a.m. What is my problem?
Anyway, I got to work and started checking things off my to-do list. I love the feeling of accomplishing things off my list!
My breakfast this morning was compliments of Kath’s recipe for Pear Peanut Oats. (Except I didn’t have peanuts, so it was just Pear Oats.)
First I had to make homemade Scottish Oats, once again from Kath’s post.
I simply took old-fashioned oats . . .
and ground them in my food processor.
Oh baby, these oats were divine! So creamy and delicious. The texture of the homemade Scottish oats reminded me of Malt-o-Meal.
(Since the sun is rising so late in the morning now (and I rising so early), I wasn’t able to take pictures outside. 🙁 So I apologize for the poor quality pictures.)
The addition of the pear in there kicked it up a notch!
I also had a muffin I baked this morning.
The muffin was quite delicious and hearty. Not one of my favorites, but still good. I found the recipe on Bob’s Red Mill package of Oat Bran. (The recipe can be found here.)
My long run yesterday always kicks my metabolism up a notch, so a mid-morning snack was necessary.
A Homemade Graham Cracker and yogurt.
This had to have been one of the best cups of yogurt I’ve had in a while. You could have told me I was eating lemon pie, it was that good! 🙂
I love that they use fruit juice to sweeten the yogurt.
I also liked that the whole container of yogurt was only 110 calories and 16 grams of sugar. Craig and I off to go on a bike ride. Maybe the last one before it snows?!?!
i love roasted carrots too!
please make me breakfast tomorrow before work
I love your blog!! I am a vegan runner, and I can appreciate all of the delicious recipes:). Not to mention, I’m always at the grocery store with my boy:).
Nice to “meet” you!
